Slower streetcars were common in the 1900s but this kind of rapid transit unfortunately was not built. However, there was an elevated line (I’m not sure of the years it was in use) that is now being pursued as a park: http://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/health-med-fit/fitness/article_c3fd3922-02f9-5d5a-a476-0c11a50c58f8.html

Comment on Buckminster Fuller’s Old Man River by admin http://cb12.raimistdesign.com/2012/10/11/buckminster-fullers-old-man-river/#comment-132 Fri, 12 Oct 2012 17:31:43 +0000 http://cb12.raimistdesign.com/?p=343#comment-132 Katrina –

Thank you for the information. The project publication does clearly reference Fuller as does the label on the model illustrated. Many geodesic domes and similar projects have the same kinds of issues with regard to proper attribution and conception. I don’t mean to take anything away from Fitz. One note: Fitzgibbon taught at Washington University in St. Louis.

Comment on Buckminster Fuller’s Old Man River by Katrina Fairley http://cb12.raimistdesign.com/2012/10/11/buckminster-fullers-old-man-river/#comment-131 Fri, 12 Oct 2012 14:40:06 +0000 http://cb12.raimistdesign.com/?p=343#comment-131 James Fitzgibbon, professor at the University of Washington, and long time colleague and friend of Buckminster Fuller designed the Old Man River project. Fitzgibbon was an architect and co-owner of Synergetics, Inc in Raleigh. Synergetics, Inc designed the early geodesic domes, not Fuller. Buckminster Fuller patented the geometry for geodesic domes, but he did not design any actual dome building. Fuller left the design work to real architects and engineers.

We’re happy you liked the m-pesa article. Two quick comments – the shop in the photo isn’t an m-pesa shop, and if you decide to keep the photo could you add a credit to it please? We try very hard to provide photos for free but need any that are used to be credited (to Ken Banks, kiwanja.net).

Thanks.
